Redwood is on my bucket list of places to visit (in an epic west coast road trip 😀). It feels like it was a celebration and a clear cutting point separating old and new life. I think we should all do that when we start the unconventional path. Celebrate and reprogram 🙂
You will love it! Let me know when you decide to plan a trip and I would be happy to share suggestions. I've done this area in the redwoods 3x now and have also driven Highway 1 (pacific coast highway) from SF Bay Area to San Diego. I've also done mid-to-northern Oregon Coast all the way around the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. That is spectacular as well.
I must go to these places you mentioned since I’m so close by. I’m just waiting for the weather to get better.
That phrase email goblin - wow so on point. And the way you described what it was like to detox from it is a good reminder for someone like me. I haven’t been in the corporate world for so long, which makes me prone to forget what I disliked most about it.
Yes, absolutely go! It's probably terribly muddy from all the recent rains. The spring will bring wildflowers, the summer will bring larger crowds. Weather doesn't vary much in this area. I first went in winter, which was lovely for solitude but was constantly trying to beat the sunset. Longer days give more time for hiking!
The email goblin can also exist outside the corporate world, as responsiveness is essential for those of us who are self-employed. It still feels LOADS better to me.
Redwood Reprogramming should be a requirement for anyone starting their sabbatical, I love the phrase! You really captured the anxiety still feeling attached to a “schedule” and then the relief to let go so well here. Plus with those beautiful photos, I’m tempted to go to the Redwoods now!
I 100% endorse this! I have already been back twice to that area to share it with others. Also last year I eloped on a hike (different part of CA though) in a redwood "cathedral".
Thank you so much for reading my work and being so encouraging. It's so nice to connect with others who have taken similar paths and risks.

Wow, the redwood cathedral sounds like another great story.
It's my pleasure, I've been really enjoying your essays!
